Been a Long Time, Friends
Mel on the BeachMy 5 year old granddaughter was mesmerized by the ocean waves. Caught her reflection with the sun's and her shadow, off the wet sand after the receding wave. I know it has been a long time since I have spoken to you all, and I am truly sorry for that. A lot has been going on in my life, as well as with my photography! I am still grudgingly driving a truck. Not that I do not enjoy seeing the country, but because I want to jump into my photography with both feet! It is time to make a change for the better and do what I truly love to do (and hopefully earn a bit along the way). I have many places on my "must do" travel list in a reasonable vehicle that can be parked just about anywhere, there are more places to explore through my camera lens on many two-lane roads throughout this wonderful country we live in!
I have been attending college online during my downtime in my truck and otherwise for the last few years and finally obtained my Associate's degree in Accounting. I like working with numbers, and currently working on my B.S. at Liberty University Online. Almost finished! This will be helpful in keeping track of my financial endeavors and business dealings, not to mention, helpful as a second job.
Within the last two years, I have attended two photo workshops, one at Monument Valley in April 2016, which was absolutely breathtaking! Before we ended up there, we took a tour of the famous Slot Canyons near Page, Arizona. Also, in November 2016, I attended a workshop at Death Valley, California, which I had never been to before, and we photographed the super moon rising and setting, with a lot of interesting landscape and topography in between. Sadly though, the road to Scotty's Castle was washed out and we could not get to that location...maybe some day! I learned a lot from Mr. Keith Skelton, a wonderful photographer of many years and I see advancement in my own photography because of it. He helped me with camera settings, exploring different natural lighting, and points of (camera) view on the simple things. I hope you too will see the improvement and enjoy it.
Part of our immediate and extended family joined us in June 2016 for a wonderful week long houseboat vacation on Lake Powell in Arizona and Utah. Many photography opportunities there, and two more family photo shoots. I love taking pictures of people doing what they enjoy outside of a studio! In August of 2016, I went north to Oregon and visited my youngest daughter and her family, we traveled to the Oregon coast for her family pictures. My husband and I took a vacation to Kihei in Maui, Hawaii, a small laid-back community, in October 2016, . We had never been to the islands. The daily trade winds, quite strong at times, deterred some of our plans, but we had a beautiful view of the ocean from our rented studio condo and of course, beautiful sunsets abound. We traveled the Road to Hana, went atop Haleakala volcano, went snorkeling with the sea turtles, and spent a day with a local biker's club at their chili cook-off. We want to go back sometime, as we did not get to see Pearl Harbor. We did not realize how far it was from Maui,...next time, Oahu first, and during whale watching season! I will share many parts of these adventures with you!
Also since late 2015, my husband and I were viewing homes in Arizona to move from California. The kids are grown, the taxes are rising, and the area is becoming more dangerous, we also wanted to be closer to the grandchildren (most of them) and go back to our own roots (both of us grew up in the state). I have not lost photography subject matter, just different scenery and no matter what, Arizona has some of the MOST beautiful sunsets....looking forward to the Monsoon season. Hot and humid, but clouds always add character and beauty to the scenery and sunsets that time of year. Yes, we achieved our goal and have a beautiful home in Lake Havasu City, Az, home of the "famous" London Bridge.
I hope you all enjoy my new additions to my website and can see that I am working ever so hard to improve upon what I do, and also to impress upon all the beauty that is out there, some that you may not even notice....that folks, is my job and to bring it to your attention, for your viewing pleasure.
A reminder that any and all of my photos are available for sale in print, or on canvas, metal, wood, there are several applications to choose from. I hope you will find that special shot that speaks to you personally and that you may want to view on a daily basis and uplift your spirits. If you do not see something you are looking for, ask. I have literally have thousands of photos and may have just what you are looking for!
